Behind VA Shadows: The Coiffure

The Coiffure is a performance and video piece by Kaitlyn Sarnoff, Mimi Fallon, Isabella Pan, and Maya Zukowski, consisting of a “Braid Train”, where the performers switch off doing hairstyles on each other. The hairstyles range from liberty spikes, fabric braids, and excessive clips. The Coiffure is a movement of connection and community; each participant contributes to an evolving chain of transformation, symbolizing the marriage of relationships and creativity, and channeling the nature of child-like play. The soft, feminine notes of hairstyling contrasts the punk-nature of unconventional hairstyles.

Braid Train was performed by The Coiffure at St. Botolph Club, and exhibited at Behind VA Shadows as a part of The Student Visitors.
